Decene-1

Decene-1

Description

Decene-1 is a colorless watery liquid with a pleasant odor. It is an organic compound with the chemical formula C10H20. 1-Decene contains a chain of ten carbon atoms with one double bond in alpha position, making it an alkene. There are many isomers of decene depending on the position and geometry of the double bond. Dec-1-ene is the only isomer of industrial importance with significant applications. Synonyms are: decene; Dec-1-ene; Decen; decylene; 1-C10H20; n-decene; 1-n-Decene; ALPHA-DECENE; α-Decene

Applications

Decene-1 is of industrial importance. Decene-1 enters into all reactions typical of alpha olefins. It can be used as a comonomer in polymers and copolymers, especially in its use as the backbone of synthetic oils known as Poly Alpha Olefins. It is a component in the production of epoxides, amines, oxo alcohols, synthetic fatty acids, a special solvent, alkylated aromatics and said synthetic lubricants. In nature Decene-1 has been isolated from the leaves and rhizome of the plant Farfugium japonicum and has been detected as the initial product in the microbial degradation of n-decane.
