Description

Hexene-1 is a colourless liquid with a gasoline like odour, it is an organic compound, sometimes classified as higher olefin and sometimes as an alpha olefin. Hexene-1 is an alkene (Hexane) carrying a double bond which can be at either end of the straight carbon chain.

Applications

Hexene-1 is used as a solvent and a medium for conducting chemical reactions. It is a comonomer and used in the preparation of both low density and high-density polyethylene. It acts as an adhesive, lubricant additive, and sealant chemical. It is also employed in the synthesis of linear plasticizers, oxo-alcohols, motor fuels, automotive additives, and biodegradable surfactants. In addition to this, it is used in the preparation of mercaptans, flavours and fragrances, alkyl metals, halides, and alkyl silanes.
