Tetradecene-1

Tetradecene-1

Description

Tetradecene-1 is watery liquid; colorless; with a mild pleasant odor. It is less dense than water. It is a Linear Alpha Olefin with 14 carbons (C14H28) and a double bound (in the Alpha position) and it is the most industrially useful isomer of Tetradecene. Synonyms are Tetradec-1-ene, n-Tetradec-1-ene

Applications

Tetradecene-1 can be used in the production of amines and amine oxides, oxo alcohols, alkylated aromatics, alpha olefin sulfonates, epoxides, tanning oils and synthetic fatty acids. Tetradecene-1 is employed in the production of alpha olefin sulfonate (AOS) surfactants, which are used in shampoos, liquid and powdered detergents, and liquid hand soaps. Other surfactants that can be produced include alkyl aromatics, alkyl dimethyl amines (ADMA) and detergent alcohols. Derivatives of tetradecane are found in foam boosters used in shampoos, bubble baths, dishwashing detergents, biocides and antistatic agents, dispersants in lube oils and automatic transmission fluids, and as pour-point depressants in lube and crude oils.
