n-Hexane
Description
n-Hexane is an unbranched alkane containing six carbon atoms. It has a role as a non-polar solvent and a neurotoxin. It is an alkane hydrocarbon that is very volatile and is a colourless liquid with a petroleum like odour. It is a linear saturated hydrocarbon obtained from crude oil cracking and fractionation. It is highly flammable, and its vapours can be explosive.
Applications
Its major use is primarily for glues used for shoes, leather products and roofing. Additionally, it is used in solvents as a cleansing agent for shoe, furniture and textile manufacturing, it is additionally used as a solvent which extracts edible oils from seed and vegetable crop for cooking.
